“We have truly been blessed to provide support through our scholarships, and we feel that it is we who should be thanking Ledger & Quill and DePaul for that opportunity” – Howard Goss (BUS ’56, DHL ’05)

Who better to represent L&Q and what it does than members Howard and Roberta Goss?

And especially at a celebration of 40 years of generosity–our 38th annual Ledger & Quill Fall Luncheon, Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012.

Melvoin Scholarship winner Katie Riordan, school faculty member (and scholarship sponsor) John Vitanovec (BUS '79), L&Q Scholarship holder Corrie Dolins, and L&Q Executive Committee member Mike Whelan (BUS, MS '94).

Speaking to a full house of members, faculty, supporting firms, scholarship students and their sponsors, L&Q Lifetime Associate (and L&Q Award of Merit recipient) Howard Goss, along with his wife Roberta, expressed with characteristic humility their deep satisfaction in having long been part of Ledger & Quill, and their sponsoring the Howard and Roberta Goss Scholarships in the School for nearly two decades. Over 30 students have had their educations at DePaul made possible through the Goss Scholarships. Talk about many dreams!

Goss’ speech set the tone for the usual high-energy celebration. Hosted by L&Q President Jim Robbs (BUS ’80) and School Director Kevin Stevens (MST ’86), the Fall Luncheon–our 38th consecutive–introduced scholarship recipients senior Samantha Jackson, representing those students soon to graduate, and L&Q Transfer Scholarship recipient Simona Olah, whose heartfelt acceptance was given a warm round of applause. Olah promised the audience that soon as she graduates, she’ll be first in line to help future students through DePaul. Going into our 40th year, we currently support over 80 students in the School.

Goss’ final words were an apt summary of not only the luncheon, but of 40 years of L&Q: “Today, let us celebrate the greatness of Ledger & Quill, and may we look forward to many more years of doing good for the School of Accountancy and DePaul.”
