No longer practicing tax, Wafa Shalabi at first hesitated attending the spring reception for MST alumni. Both Wafa and DePaul are very glad she reconnected. As Wafa explained, “I was in Strobel and Dr. Peters’ recommendation led to my internship and first job with KPMG’s tax practice, so you can imagine how delighted I was to catch up with Professors Foth, Roberts and Murphy at the event. I was flattered they remembered me.”
Since then, Wafa has connected with like-minded alumni at the Annual Ledger & Quill Fall Luncheon and the President’s Holiday Celebration, the annual signature event for President’s Club members, as well as the CRO conference sponsored by the Arditti Center for Risk Management. Wafa just embarked on a new life chapter, taking a break from her role as vice president of risk for the restructuring finance group at GE Capital to focus full-time on family, including her four young children. Despite this change, she still plans to stay involved with DePaul, L&Q and the President’s Club.
