The School of Accoutancy’s fifth annual All-School, All-Student Group Awards Reception in June was another big hit in the series–to the students, the many generous firms and award sponsors, and for the groups themselves, who stage this annual celebration of excellence and partnership.
Almost 200 people filled the Ballroom of the Standard Club. More than 100 representatives from 17 firms and professional organizations, including L&Q, a strong supporter of the student groups, participated.
The student groups–Ascend, the Accounting Club; Beta Alpha Psi; Graduate Students for Accounting; and DePaul chapters of the Midwest Association of Hispanic Accountants and the National Association of Black Accountants–join forces each year to plan and stage the reception. Each group takes the podium, recounts its year, introduces new officers, presents its own and firms’ awards, and especially thanks the many who contribute so much to their educations. School of Accountancy Director Kevin Stevens and L&Q President Michael Whelan of EY proudly opened and closed the student-run professional event.
The evening featured a surprise farewell to the school’s Tim Lockyer, who has worked extensively with the student groups and L&Q, and is retiring from DePaul after 34 years (more below). To honor his many contributions, L&Q announced the launch of the Tim Lockyer Scholarship, which will be provided to a graduating senior facing the financial challenges of the CPA Exam. The first recipient of the Lockyer Award, Barbara Chrzanowska, thanked L&Q for the support, and Lockyer for his years of service to DePaul students.
